Set in rural Prince Edward Island (but shot in Toronto), Laura is a young girl preparing to leave her home in Charlottetown to work as a writer in London, England. The film occurs the day Laura receives a prestigious job at the BBC , a potential ticket out out of the province. Her family throws a celebratory party for her before Laura has even heard the news. As she celebrates with her closest family and friends she makes a decision that she keeps to herself. Laura is actually planning to stay on the Island in a secluded cottage a few hours from the city- isolated and trapped in a town she cannot find the courage to leave.

This production will cover all of your transportation and dietary needs. You will also be given a copy of the film to put on your reel.

The film shoots for a total of 6 days: 3 days in Toronto for ALL characters (and 3 days in Prince Edward Island ONLY for the character LAURA).

All actors will be needed for 3 days over the weekend of December 14-18 for the Toronto shoot.

Character Descriptions:

Kate: 21-26
Tall and thin build, quirky style bordering on hipster.
Kate is a fun loving recent graduate from the University of Prince Edward Island. She is a singer in a small band that plays the same venue every second weekend. Kate hopes to move away but for some reason can't get away from the tiny cafe where she works \ or Charlottetown. She doesn't know where she wants to go but she is insistent on making her time well spent despite how monotonous living in a small town can be.

Frank Hughes: 50-55
Average build, salt and pepper hair, horn rimmed glasses. Warm presence, subdued but not drab style.
Frank is a biology teacher at Colonel Gray Highschool. He is passionate about his job, family and province. Frank is actively involved in the heritage board of Charlottetown and he also runs the drama club in the High School. Frank met his wife, Pam, when they were both attending Colonel Gray. Frank doesn't enjoy being the disciplinarian and usually leaves that task to his wife.He does insist on taking a family vacation to Ireland every second year.

Pam Hughes : 50-55
Earthy and casual. Attractive with a small build.
Pam is a yoga instructor who started the first yoga studio in Charlottetown 20 years ago. She is very involved with her children and has made it her life long mission to ensure that their family eats exclusively organic. Pam went to Concordia during her undergrad to study creative writing but decided that she wanted to come home and start a family and has been meaning to get back into writing.

Grant Hughes or Poppy: 75-85
Strong build, grey hair. Simple and practical style. Blue collar appearance.
Grant Hughes lived in Pinette, PEI with his wife Edith until she passed away two years ago.Since then Grant has had to close up his shop and come live with his son Frank and their family. Grant feels as though he is imposing on his family and generally keeps to himself. Grant was a boat builder for his life and misses living in the country.

Tash: 17-20
Thin. Bright and perky appearance, preppy style.
Tash is a vibrant girl who is almost finished of her last year of high school. Tash has shared a bedroom with her older sister, Laura for her whole life and desperately wants her own space.Tash is fiercely independent and is involved in every possible club at high school so that she can spend as much time as possible away from him. Despite this Tash is very close to her sister and admires how creative she is.

Laura: 18-25
Down to earth presence, earth tones. Subtle yet thoughtful style.
Laura is a writer who was born and raised in Charlottetown. Laura keeps to herself but has an old soul ability to attract people to her. She is thoughtful and clever and has a passion for nature.
