While ESI's 24/7 on call mechanism handles most after hours' issues, there may be the occasional need to monitor emails and/or processes after hours. S/he will be assigned accountability for one to two clients in any given time period.

Primary Responsibilities
 Monitor production grade job control and scheduling 7x24x365 environment.
 Manage and improve performance of platform to meet client Service Level Agreements (SLA's).
 Manage escalations and effectively communicate issues with Configuration and Development teams and clients, if applicable.
 Configure back office integration for clients into ESI's current technology platforms consistent with ESI methods, processes and workflow
 Coordinate and document project meetings
 Understand and appropriately document client needs and requirements using formal modeling methodologies.
 Document and monitor project plans for configuration, initialization and on-going operations using Confluence.
 Assist with risk reduction during implementation by minimizing the amount of change requests
 Review application logs to triage issues and monitor overall health of the system
 Solve operating and project process problems, escalating issues as appropriate
 Through issue analysis, write and execute SQL scripts used to make configuration changes and for forensic purposes
 Identify and capture additional opportunities with clients using existing and/or identify new technology solutions that add value to ESI's overall product offering
 Works closely in conjunction with the Configuration and Development team and provides frequent and effectively communicates task status updates
 Research solutions and best practices including understanding other frameworks and competitive products.



Qualifications
 Post secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology with a minimum of 3-5 years of related experience.
 Solid understanding of one or more formal Software Development Life Cycle processes and / or alternate methodologies such as Java, C++
 Demonstrated proficiency with one or more large RDBMS (Oracle, MS SQL, DB2, Sybase etc.)
 Working experience with any of these process maturity frameworks ITIL, COBIT, CMMI, TOGAF and PMBOK.

1.3 BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Next Generation Desktop (NGD) Deployment project is a part of the OPS wide O/S upgrade project that was originally initiated by Infrastructure Technology Services (ITS). The project is responsible for upgrading the existing Windows XP desktop environment to the Windows 7 based platform environment. Every cluster has a sub-project linked to the NGD project that executes the cluster level application testing and remediation and image deployment activities. As per the definition, the cluster level application support troubleshooting support team role is a key activity at this stage that this RFS will require the services for.

1.4 CLIENT'S REQUIREMENTS

Scope of Services and Deliverables - The Services and Deliverables to be provided by the Vendor will include the following:

Objective:
To provide specialized technological support and on-call firefighting support capability, in-depth troubleshooting and issues resolution coordination, as well as to act as a central knowledge-base for the cluster and its ministry clients in situations when the cluster deployment team or program area end-users encounter unexpected technical, application and operational issues related to the deployment of the NGD image (e.g. application incompatibility and set up issues) on hardware assets that come refreshed with or are upgraded to the NGD image.

Responsibilities:
• Participate in cluster NGD project team meetings and discussions, reporting to the Cluster NGD Project Lead
• Synchronize ongoing NGD project specific application support activities with corporate directions, in accordance with established project scope and schedule
• Support the cluster NGD project team in the investigation, analysis and resolution of complex technical issues related to the NGD platform deployment initiative, working directly with IT support staff
• Respond to requests and inquiries from clients, as well as deployment and application support teams

• Support cluster strategies, coordinate plans, prioritize activities and deliverables between cluster application support sections as required for the timely resolution of application compatibility issues identified during and after NGD deployment activities, or during site specific post-deployment stabilization period, with the goal of minimizing operational impact on business area end-users and ensuring a successful transition to post-deployment business operations
• Assume the day-to-day responsibility for providing a consolidated oversight and supporting ongoing NGD application testing and remediation activities within the cluster, under the guidance of the project team and in consultation with cluster application support stakeholders, while also leveraging knowledge and experience gained from OPS-wide NGD application testing, remediation and deployment activities
• Manage, track to completion and report status of ongoing application testing, remediation, certification and packaging activities, ensuring collaboration among various applications support areas supporting different client branches, and prevent any redundancies in testing/certification activities among the different business units
• Work jointly with the NGD Portfolio Manager to coordinate status reporting on remediation efforts for cross-cluster and enterprise-wide corporate applications
• Assist business area end-users and cluster stakeholders with application and data migration activities, as required
• Create application support knowledge records and provide knowledge transfer to cluster and ministry clients and project team resources as required
• Provide technical support training to other project team members

Deliverables:
• Troubleshooting analysis and technical solution recommendations to address application compatibility issues

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This person will report directly to the Information Technology Manager. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited, to the following:

Linux/Unix Networking and Administration;
Unix Shell Scripting;
Samba file and print services;
NIS, NTP network services;
TCIP/IP networking;
Windows Networking and Administration;
VMWare setup and configuration;
Lotus Notes and Domino a plus;
Managing LAN/WAN installation/configuration/support on Linux platforms;
Integration of Lotus Domino;
Solid knowledge on network security, Firewall, VPN and Load Balance;
Providing network upgrades, reconfigurations, integrations and troubleshooting servers;
Perform daily system backups, connectivity and network virus inoculations;
Upgrades to Domino Web servers;
Performing server and workstation performance optimization;
Making repairs and reconfiguration to systems;
Providing technical support to clients and shoppers; and

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate must be able to work independently, as well as be an active member of the team. A Computer Science Degree is preferred, however, a candidate with a previous background and related experience in Systems Administration will be considered. Experience and comfort in a computerized environment is essential to the position. A working knowledge of the various web applications as noted above is mandatory. Strong communication (both written and oral), a critical eye for detail and outstanding organizational skills are a must. Enthusiasm, energy and a goal/results-oriented attitude are prerequisites. This role provides Technical and Operational expertise for our client's Network Infrastructure Platforms and Business Processes. Ensure adherence to ITIL best practices through coaching and mentorship. Provide training to members of the Network Service Implementation Team where required.

Responsibilities

Remotely maintain and update existing Linux systems
Install, configure and update server software (Apache, Tomcat, Java, PHP, Qmail)
Install, update and configure web frameworks and applications (Drupal, J2EE applications)
Work with Cloud infrastructure (Amazon AWS, EC2, EBS, etc) launching instances, maintaining AMIs, etc.
Perform minor shell scripting
Perform minor programming tasks (Java, PHP)
Minor MySQL Database Administration
The odd emergency tech support request

Minimum Requirements / Desired Experience

Demonstrable education or experience suitable for the position
Operating Systems: Ubuntu (and variants), CentOS, RHE
Experience performing SSH/console-access-only administration
Experience with the operating systems, frameworks and software platforms mentioned in the description of responsibilities.


Additional Desirable Requirements / Experience

Amazon Web Services API
CouchDB / schema free db / VLDB administration and configuration
Experience with persistent caching frameworks (e.g. Redis)
Experience with load balancing, cluster design, varnish caching, etc.
Experience deploying decoupled web service frameworks and understanding the unique challenges of high volume, high traffic, extremely decoupled web applications.
Development experience in PHP (particularly Drupal or wordpress)

• Experience working on an IT Help Desk (asset)

The position is also responsible for datacenter software and hardware maintenance; operating system and hardware level support, responding to automated notifications and alerts, and working within an incident management framework. Other responsibilities include documenting system security procedures and performing general network and computer security administration. Training on job processes and procedures will be provided as required.
