Position Purpose:
• Responsibility for the operations of an enterprise computer centre, with the ultimate goal of meeting strategic service availability objectives for the enterprise.
• Key technical operations contact for the data centre critical systems (non-IT & Network hardware), ensuring systems are maintained and/or upgraded to leading best practices and manufacturers recommendations, responding to system failures thus protecting our operations from unexpected interruptions/malfunctions.
• Mechanical and electrical operations subject matter expert including: Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), emergency power generators, hydro power, HVAC (heating, ventilation & air conditioning), building controls & fire suppression systems.
• Responsible for adherence to budgets, technical engineering & operating standards for building infrastructure.
• Partner with the various businesses in understanding their business strategies & operations. Assist in the development of reliable and cost effective solutions, annual budgets, technical standards & policies that support their strategies.

Key Accountabilities:
Operations
• Responsible for the building operations of the Stratford Building Operations, with the ultimate goal of safety, soundness and continuous availability (no downtime) for the critical business operations.
• Responsible for and interface with internal partners, external vendors and authorities having jurisdiction on all operational issues, ensuring critical facilities are effectively and efficiently managed.
• Participate and/or lead procurement activities for external services or products, assist in the development of Service Level Agreements.
• Manage all third-party vendors for maximum return on service quality and cost effectiveness.
• Develop & communicate, corrective & preventative maintenance programs for all critical building systems.
• In partnership with external vendors, continually audit existing critical systems to proactively identify weaknesses or potential problems, recommend and prepare necessary documentation for CRE/Business Owner approval for equipment repairs, upgrade or replacement.
• Lead the development of life cycle replacement business case analysis for capital funding consideration to business units.
• Lead the development of operational risk analysis and short to long term risk mitigation plans.
• Business Continuity contact for critical systems support, ensuring identification and testing of alternate suppliers, systems and equipment (including comprehensive documentation).
• Will lead the resolution of and be a Business Continuity Management contact for any incidents that may or may not impact service delivery.
• Manage all maintenance and services to building & property assets (ie. security, cleaning, grounds keeping etc.)
• Manage and maintain annual budgets with monthly accrual and forecast updates.

Design, Standards & Projects
• Assist in the development of enterprise and building engineering standards, operational policies & procedures.
• Partner with the design and project teams for the engineering design of all capital or operational upgrade projects (directing technical requirements to external consultants), support project team through all phases of project lifecycle.
• Assist in further enhancing change control processes to ensure that clients are apprised of any risk and potential impact to their critical operations.
• Maintain knowledge & inventory of all building and critical infrastructure systems.
• Partner with IT Infrastructure to develop a joint operations manual for raised floor and common area space and infrastructure. Assist in the development of KPI’s between IT and CRE.
• Maintain knowledge on the latest state-of-the-art research activities in areas of data centre strategy & operations (ie. Uptime Institute, Green Grid, ASHRAE & Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).
Job Requirements: (Knowledge/ Experience):
• PEng degree in electrical engineering or equivalent relevant degree with strong mechanical and multi-discipline engineering background.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in computer / data centre or commercial and industrial Power Generation Systems (HRSG, turbines & diesel) applications. Expert knowledge of HVAC, high voltage switchgears, power quality protection, energy and load monitoring, UPS, BAS security systems.
• Expert knowledge in budgetary and finance process related to operations.
