Our client provides integrated payment solutions to a number of large retailers all over North America. They are seeking a POS Developer to join their team.

On the direction of the Project Manager, you will:
- Design and implement software solutions for customers following project scope documentation.
- Develop, test, and document software for projects and products, including preparing test plans, and performing unit and integration tests. Ensure that all deliverables leaving the department are tested and documented according to standards.
- Ensure the clients are provided with the information that is required to enable them to assist in defining the solution. The knowledge transfer is accomplished through the use of project technical documents, training sessions and presentations.
- Prioritize time to ensure that delivery requirements are met.
- Maintain a sense of urgency at all times.
- Develop and enhance core/backbone of products using the firm’s coding processes and methodologies. Document the entire process.
- Contribute and adhere to the firm’s development processes and standards. This involves maintaining and enhancing knowledge and understanding of the firm’s code base.
- Work to provide accurate work breakdown and task estimates and delivery dates for assigned tasks.
- Perform work as a technical lead on projects. When appropriate, support software developers by providing technical advice and guidance on design and coding issues in their projects.
- Develop components for new hardware (bank, pinpad, smartcards, wireless networks).
- Enhance existing components and applications.
- Analyze and debug software prior to passing it on to the installation team including performing unit and functionality tests. Ensure that all deliverables leaving the department are tested and documented to the firm’s specifications.
- Report progress on projects as necessary.
- Support the development team by doing product certification testing prior to its release.
- Communicate with affected parties to anticipate and resolve conflicting deadlines and development issues.
- Work with the QA department to assist with testing and analysis of software.
- Work with the Technical Communications Department to ensure the firm’s documentation is of the highest quality.
- Provide support to the sales team by providing input to Business Cases, Statement of Works, RFI’s, RFQ’s, and RFP’s in order to ensure accuracy.
- Support the sales process by providing answers to any technical questions potential customers may have about products and capabilities.
- Act as a technical liaison between the customer and sales team, implementation and product development to champion the customer’s case and ensure all specific details are addressed.
- Be a team player to Project Managers by completing tasks on time, providing task(s) progress, completing project documents and reporting time spent accurately.
- Provide assistance to the support helpdesk in resolving production issues.
- Contribute and adhere to the firm’s development processes and standards.
- Develop and enhance expertise in the firm’s products, their use, installation, and build procedures.
- Develop and enhance expertise in the Retail Financial Transaction Industry, and related industries.
- Maintain a positive and cooperative relationship with the firm’s clients and partners.
- Maintain professional conduct in accordance with accepted industry standards for professional software engineers.

Required skills:
- C/C# and object oriented development - 6 years related work experience.
- Experience with smart cards, POS devices and wireless data networks.
- Sound knowledge of problem-solving and debugging techniques.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP network and sockets programming.
- Knowledge of Windows NT/2K/XP, OS/2, and Linux internals.
- University degree in Computer Science (B.Sc.or P.Eng.) or Community College certificate in a related field of study or equivalent training.
- Message formatting experience with a payment authorizer ideally in TCP/IP and/or integrated a pinpad by writing to its API.
- Experience in the retail or banking industry as asset.
- Knowledge of communication protocols, LAN, WAN, and device drivers.
- Knowledge of data networks, operating systems, financial transactions, and POS functionality.
- Experience with retail applications and technology – payment processing, switches.
