Events Coordinator
Riverdale Immigrant Womens Centre (RIWC) is a charitable organisation with a mandate to serve South Asian and Chinese speaking immigrant women and their families by providing culturally appropriate and linguistically specific settlement support and counselling services with the use of community determined strategies, developed and delivered by immigrant women.
RIWC is seeking an Events Coordinator who will be responsible for engaging RIWCs catchment communities by outreaching to potential partners to create a community hub of like-minded organizations. This is a part-time position and RIWC encourages applications from diverse cultural backgrounds, visible minorities and people with disabilities and women.
Responsibilities:
Developing and promoting new events in the arts, environmental, social justice, advocacy coalitions and social enterprise groups (this includes researching, marketing, and managing people and events)
Market RIWCs events, community kitchen and meeting spaces as a venue for community events
Design and develop media kits and all marketing materials for community outreach
Development of a data base and mail out lists, responding to event leads and all related correspondence
Schedule and track bookings on a calendar of events
Provide access to support for special needs of user groups (AV, furniture, kitchen equipment, after hours entry, clean-up, etc.)
Ensure all costs for space and special needs are clearly articulated to the user groups
Liaise between user groups and other occupants of the building
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Post secondary degree/diploma in marketing or related field an asset
In-depth knowledge of progressive community groups and excellent research skills an asset
Must be currently an Ontario Work recipient
Must be current Child Tax Benefit recipient
Experience in planning, organizing and executing events within a community based setting
Demonstrated abilities in working with, facilitating, and encouraging participation from a diversity of people and groups, including community leaders, business, government representatives, general public, and ethno-racial minority communities.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and group facilitation skills
Ability to maintain records and documentation
Computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Microsoft Windows applications)
Understanding and knowledge of barriers to access encountered by immigrant women within a feminist and anti-oppression analysis model as well as relevant policy
Excellent administrative, organizational and analytic skills
Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
This is a one-year contract position.
