Looking for piano and vocal instructors (think songs by The Beatles, Elton John, Coldplay, etc.). Ability to play and teach more than one instrument is a huge asset. "Jamming" with students is a huge part of the philosophy of our lessons. Having a car is a hugely beneficial.

You are a dynamic player who's interested in joining and being in a band where you provide ongoing creative input as we all grow and progress together into a rock 'n' roll gang of sorts and write a ton of new material. Play a ton of shows. Make a record. Tour around and so on.

Nothing against session players, but we're not looking for a hired gun.

Although we're trying for a timeless sound of our own of course, some bands that turn us on a great deal are:
The National, Velvet Underground, Wilco in their more noisy stages, early Interpol, The Strokes, The Vaccines, Crocodiles, M83, The Strange Boys and old staples like Dylan, Springsteen, Tom Waits and so on...
Ideally, you are into this realm of music as well, but also bring your own individual taste strains along for the ride.

We've got a practice space where we get together a couple times per week at the minimum that is feeling pretty spacious right now without your drum kit in it. And really, who are we kidding, we like to get cozy.

What saddens our pulsing hearts a great deal right now is that we have to keep turning down shows during this drummer-less stage of limbo and we really just want to be making noise for whoever will lend us their ears.
You are anxious to practice and create. Get an awesomely good set really tight real soon and start playing shows!
You want to make melodic, moody and dramatic indie rock.
You are ambitious and, dare we say, eager to contribute to the success of the band in more than just musical ways.

So you want to make music? Great! We're glad that you've taken the time to learn more about Univox Choir and hope that you will drop by a rehearsal and check us out.

Univox is a mixed-voice community choir for young adults in their late teens, 20's and 30's with relationship building, social responsibility and musical excellence at its core. We serve the Bloordale community and the City of Toronto by offering spirited performances of choral music, both old and new. Performed works are primarily a capella and span a wide range of the choral spectrum; Renaissance madrigals and motets, choral classics, modern (and often locally grown) composition, spirituals and international folks songs.

We all come from a diverse range of musical backgrounds; most have sung in choirs at different times during their lives and some (like myself) had never. Univox is filling the niche for young adults who wish to have a rewarding choral experience with others in their age group.

The name Univox has Latin origins and means "one voice". We celebrate diversity and the cultural mosaic of our community. We use our voices as a vehicle for the improvement of the quality of life for ourselves and those around us, touching and opening the hearts of our listeners and overcoming the obstacles that separate us.

The choir's season runs September-June with performances in December, March and June.

Name's Jay Monzones, 21, live in markham and you've probably seen me at shows....I'm usually the only non-white guy there haha. Been playing bass for 7 years. I recently left my band Toxic Deathula. Did that for two years and played a lot of gigs (Mostly The 460 and The Bovine Sex Club). Now I'm looking to join another band, write new material and play shows again. My influences are 80's hardcore (Black Flag, 7 Seconds, Circle Jerks etc) and 90's skate punk (A lot of FAT and early Epitaph bands), though I do love Ska, Celtic punk, psychobilly...you name it. Basically anything except for Metalcore and Pop Punk (by this, I mean like Yellowcard, Simple Plan etc). Top 3 favorite bands: Bad Religion, Youth Brigade and The Descendents. I've been working a lot for the last year or so and recently decided that I need an outlet. I played in bands for years but have been off the wagon to focus on paying off some outstanding debt. It feels like time to get back on.

To be clear, at least for the time-being, I just feel like getting together with some like-minded, compatible people on evenings/weekends to hang out in a jam space (somewhere in Toronto, as I don't have a car to do suburbs) and play some covers for the fuck of it -- Tool, A Perfect Circle, Deftones, Glassjaw, Envy on the Coast, Alice in Chains, Incubus, Thrice, Karnivool, I Mother Earth, Alexisonfire, Muse, Queens of the Stone Age, etc. That sorta thing.

I'm a male in my late 20s; primarily a vocalist, but also play guitar (who doesn't, right?). Age isn't all that imperative, but rapport is important as I'd like it to be as relaxed & friendly as possible. I don't demand that you be pro, but it's certainly preferable that you be proficient at your instrument so we can jam more than we rehearse, and open our repertoire to play more challenging songs. Learning from other skilled musicians along the way would be a very welcome bonus.

If you're a guitarist/bassist/drummer/etc. and this appeals to you -- or maybe you have this arrangement already with some others and just need a vocalist to fill in -- drop me a line.
