Walnut Studios is a collection of four bright art studios within a vintage industrial building located in the heart of Toronto's downtown core. We offer artists and other creative workers individual rental spaces in a unique studio with open concept design, post and beam construction, high ceilings and large windows.
Located across from Stanley Park in the beautiful Niagara neighbourhood, these four unique interconnected art studios offer openness and creative vibe that is highly conducive to inspiration.
All of the spaces within Walnut Studios are rented individually per artist and can also be set up for multiple users.

Being very performance oriented, I use the term 'Pop-Art Rock' to describe my music, cause the evolution/devolution of Pop-Art as an audio-video genre fascinates me.
My goal here and now is to form a theatrical, and visually expressive multi-media type of band, and play alot of gigs this spring/summer. Live music is the most amazing public service offering there is!

Since experimental turntabilsm's inception with John Cage's "Imaginary Landscape No. 1" in 1939 most turntablism of this nature has been dominated by avant-garde artists who adopted the turntable and/or records as instruments because of their ability to provide unconventional and aesthetically intriguing sounds. Toronto's SlowPitch, on the other hand, sounds instead like an actual DJ that has been schooled in traditional turntablism and who has now progressed naturally into experimental territory after mastering the tools of the disc jockey's trade.

The basic idea is to take portraits of people in or around Toronto. Looking for anyone any age willing to have a few pictures taken of them.
Looking to shoot on location(of your choice) or at/near your home. I've done something similar during school were I took 1 portrait of a person and only one and what I got was what I got. Would like to expand this project. If you're under 18 you'll have to get parent/guardian permission, I will also be asking people to sign a model release form (want to cover myself for any problem I may have if showing the work at a later time). For now I am just planning to exhibit this work for my portfolio and possibly on my blog.
Compensation can be discussed but I will gladly provide everyone with high res scans of the images.
I don't expect the shoot to take too long, look for a few image max 30 min of your time is needed. Looking to do a full body as well as shoulders and up.

Whether you are a designer, animator, illustrator, artist, hobbyist, student or someone who believes in art as a form of therapy, Behind the Front Visual Arts Studio has something to offer you. Creating art is an opportunity to express one's self imaginatively, authentically, and spontaneously; it is an experience that over time, can lead to personal fulfillment, emotional reparation and recovery. Whatever your reason, Behind the Front will help you grow artistically with our team of qualified artists.
Our Objective
Our goal is to provide students with traditional skills for drawing, designing and animating. We focus on the understanding of figurative techniques (realistic drawing) by learning to see the things in our foreground, mid-ground and background. We believe that learning to draw is learning to see. Once students acquire these fundamental skills the focus turns to developing personal expression.
The Program
Our program is from 6:30pm to 9:30pm and starts Wednesday February 29th. It focuses on how to approach the human figure, how to simplify the difficult, what is important, line & analysis and using geometry.
Materials and Supplies
All basic drawing supplies are provided by the studio. We work strictly with qualified models at no extra cost to our students. Student's work can be stored on the premise for the duration of their studies. To ensure the comfort of our students, our studio is also equipped with stud horses designed by Instructor Adrian Hayles.
Monday Drop in Sessions
The sessions will go from 6:30pm to 9:30pm every Monday. Each session will cost $10. We also offer cards of 10 sessions for $80. Participants are required to bring their own materials.

The new extend exhibition hours will allow more visitors to see the show and give art writers and critics a chance to review and write about the events.

Our studio is located on the second floor of a two story building, on the corner of Richmond and Spadina.
Previously owned by a Tailor in the Old Garment District, the high ceilings, old wooden beams, large North facing window and partially
exposed brick are a charming and inspirational setting for both a work studio and gallery shows.
Included in the rental fee for each occupant:
- 24 hour access, 7 days a week

A camera obscura is basically a day long project that requires: duct tape, black garbage bags, a window, and a pair of scissors. What I'd be doing is covering up the windows with black garbage bags, cutting a small hole in the middle and then the image of the outside world will project upside down onto the walls and thats the scene I would be photographing.
As I said before, I am a student therefore on a very limited budget... but Im willing to negotiate forms of payment (a small monetary fee, a copy of the photographic print, etc...)

You will create a 2 ft. x 3 ft. rug during class and take home a 2nd. Rug all seamed, primed and ready for your design.
You will learn how to prime, and seam, and paint using fast drying water based latex or acrylic paints. A variety of colours will be available but if you have some leftover interior or exterior latex paints, bring them with you.
You don't have to be an artist to create a masterpiece, there will be lots to help you along.
There will be design books for inspiration, stencils, and stamps available to help you create your one of a kind rug. A few unusual elements will be shown to you as well during class.
Please feel free to bring any materials, brushes or inspiration with you if you choose. Make sure that they are labeled with your name so that they may be returned to you at the end of class.
There will be 5 classes of 2 hours in length every week from :
Monday March 5th to Monday April 2nd
7:00p.m. to 9p.m. Please arrive early so that you are settled in when we start at 7 sharp.
Cost is $175.00
Space is limited so sign up early!
Cost includes 2 rugs made from 2 ft. x 3 ft. heavy duty canvas, primer, use of variety of latex and acrylic paints, top coat, brushes, rollers, stencils, stamps, design books and more. There will be printed instructions to take home at the end of session 5.
